On Mumbo Island there is a little shop situated just off the dining room. In this shop we sell only locally made souvenirs. Everything you can buy in the shop is made in Malawi and most of it is made right in the village.

New in the shop are some fabulous clothes made from chitenje material. Most of the local women wear a chitenje over their skirt. In Malawi you can find chitenjes in every colour and with a multitude of different types of prints. Nowadays, Malawian women wrap a chitenje around their everyday clothes.

In Mumbo’s little shop we stock shorts, trousers, dresses, skirts, bomber jackets – an ever-changing range of unusual outfits perfect for your African holiday. All the clothes and bags in the shop are made by Billy, a local tailor. He has a small workshop with reed walls in the village where he keeps his treadle sewing machine and stocks his range of chitenjes. Billy taught himself how to sew everything. He also covers all the cushions on Mumbo Island.

The shop also sells local carvings like the frog bottle stoppers and ashtrays which we designed for Mumbo.
